Market oriented tarifs within the freelance arts
When a dancers union suggests what is called ´veiledende tariffer´ – in English equivalent to ´retailed tarif´, that refers to the expression ´dynamic pricing´, it is clearly due to the uncertainties in the freelance market, included for both dancers and free groups.
In Norwegian language the term «Veiledende tariff» can be directly translated to in English «Suggested tarifs».
The governmental institutions such as theaters and opera houses are obliged to pay tarifs, though free groups and freelancers are suggested to apply for estimated tarifs, due to the swinging free market, and the variety of the funding in part situation. This information is rooted in a variety of art union´s own practice, such as NODA, the dancers union in Norway, http://norskedansekunstnere.no/?page_id=7596
This is a model, not uncommon in the entertainment industry, that the dancers union in Norway practiced since the early beginning, well known to everyone involved in the dance part of the professional freelance field.
Like it or not, still voted to maintain through general assemblies since the 70´ies, or even before.
The general aim is to reach fully paid work rates, due to professional terms, for every professional artist, of course. This to avoid the precariousity of art related performance.
